EC pulls up NITI Ayog

The Election Commission on Friday pulled up the NITI (National Institution for Transforming India) Ayog and barred it from holding special gram sabhas in the five poll-bound states on the occasion of Republic Day.

The EC wrote to the NITI Ayog that the government’s policy think tank should have taken prior approval from the commission before instructing the collectors or the deputy commissioners of the districts in poll-bound states to hold the special gram sabhas.

The NITI Ayog recently wrote to the collectors or deputy commissioners of all the districts across the country to hold special gram sabhas in every panchayat on the Republic Day to take inputs from people to prepare a roadmap for development in the coming years.
