A feast on screen

The 9th edition of the Bengaluru International Film Festival (BIFFES) will be held in the city from February 3 to 9 at PVR Cinemas, Rajajinagar.

   The festival will have 240 films from 60 countries that will be screened under various categories. There are four competition sections including two for Kannada films; Kannada Cinema Competition and Kannada Popular Entertainment Cinema. Some of the other sections include country focus on Luxembourg, Vietnam and Egypt. The directors’ retrospectives will be on Zoltan Fabrj (Hungary) Haskell Wexler (USA) and Buddhadeb Dasgupta (India).

Cult comedy classics from France and films from lesser-known Indian languages will also be among the highlights. Films from dialects like Tulu, Kodava, Banjara, Khasi and Wancho will also be screened.

Film buffs can also look foward to biographical pictures based on poet Neruda, filmmaker Fritz Lang and artist Van Gogh, philosopher Louis Andrea Salome, scholar M M Kalburgi and singer Mohammed Rafi.

There are nearly 30 films which are premiering. Films made by world renowned filmmakers include Asghar Farhadi from Iran, Ken Loach from UK, Kim Ki Duk from South Korea, Cristian Mungiu from Romania, Emir Kusturica from Serbia, Xavier Dolan from Canada, Pierre & Luc Dardenne from Belgium, Pablo Larrain from Chile, Hirakozu Koreeda from Japan, Maurice Pialat and Mia Hansen Love from France, Haskell Wexler from USA, just to mention a few.

Delegate fee is Rs 600 for general public, and Rs 300 for students, film society members and senior citizens. For details, visit www.biffes.in
