It is that time of the year when the vibrant culture and exotic food of the Seven Sister States come under a single platform to give Bengalureans the mystique experience of the Northeast. Karnataka’s departments of Tourism and Kannada and Culture have collaborated with Northeast Solidarity to host ‘Xperience NorthEast 2017’, the fifth annual festival of music, art, culture, food and games, on February 4 and 5 at Ravindra Kalakshetra.

“Connecting cultures is our theme in which residents of Bengaluru will get the opportunity to experience the Northeast. The festival will bring together the local Kannada culture and the flamboyant Northeast cultures,” said Rini Ralte, a professor at The United Theological College. Visitors will not only get to savour delicacies from the Northeast but also catch a glimpse of the cultural heritage of Seven Sister States. The festival will showcase various dance forms, traditional games, an ethnic fashion show, exquisite food and live rock bands from the region, she added.

While cultural groups from Assam, Manipur and Mizoram will perform their folk routines, the ethnic fashion show will feature women and children in traditional attire. Four women from Karnataka in their traditional attire will also walk the ramp, said Mary Kath, a PhD scholar from Nagaland. This apart, 20 different games of ethnic nature will be played alongside performances by best bands and musicians from the Northeast. As for the food, there will be 100-odd items on the menu, Ralte said. The entry fee is Rs 100.
