OPS promises probe into Jaya's death

Last Updated 08 February 2017, 19:29 IST

Barely two days after doctors asserted that there was no conspiracy in the medical procedure adopted for J Jayalalithaa’s treatment, caretaker Chief Minister O Panneerselvam on Wednesday said a commission headed by a Supreme Court judge will be constituted to investigate her death.

“There is a series of doubts in people’s minds about Amma’s death and it is the duty of the government to clear it,” he said.

“Therefore, a commission of inquiry led by a Supreme Court judge will be definitely constituted to probe the death of Amma,” he added. He said the commission would investigate thoroughly and submit its report. “The commission will also announce the outcome of the investigation to the people,” he added.

Panneerselvam said he was not allowed to see Jayalalithaa during the 75 days of her hospitalisation. “I went to the hospital every day. Though the governor was allowed twice, I was not permitted to see Amma,” he charged.
