Visiting four constituencies, including D J Halli and Shivajinagar, Azad made his five-minute pitch for the votes of minorities and women at each of the stops.

“Compare the history of both parties, Congress and the BJP. You all know that under the rule of the Congress at the Centre, the minorities, women and the backward classes got their rightful reservation. Vote for the Congress and we will deliver what we promise,” said Azad.

The support for Azad was resounding in DJ Halli and Shivajinagar. Flanked by local MLAs Prasanna Kumar and Roshan Baig, Azad praised the central leadership of Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh and Rahul Gandhi for their efforts to get the reserved categories their due. He asked the people to vote for the party that brought in the reservation rules.
He took a dig at the ruling party for not spending even 10 percent of the funds released under the JNNURM scheme for the City.

“The Congress had allocated Rs 22,000 crore under the JNNURM scheme for Bangalore. Not even 10 percent of these funds have been utilised for the welfare of the City,” he said.

Supported by the KPCC president, R V Deshpande, who blamed the BJP for its inadequate law and order system and false promises, Azad went from Hebbal to Pulakeshinagar, Shivajinagar and finally ended his campaign at Chamrajpet.

Whether his importance will play any role in getting support for the Congress candidates the coming week will decide.
