HC stays board resolution removing trustee

The High Court of Karnataka on Wednesday stayed the resolution of the board of trustees of Sathya Sai Loka Seva Trust, removing S S Nagananda as trustee.

Justice V Veerappa passed an interim order, staying for 15 days the resolution of the board of trustees at a meeting held at Muddenahalli in Chikkaballapur district on January 21, 22 and 23, and ordered an emergent notice to the respondents.

In the petition, Nagananda said he was removed for questioning the illegal acts of the trust secretary B N Narasimha Murthy and other trustees U Gangadhara Bhat, Eshwara Bhat, K Sanjiva Shetty, B Narayana Rao, K Vasantraj, Mahendra S Hegde, Madhusudan Naidu, R K Subramanya.  

The petitioner said clause four of the trust deed which said Bhagavan Sathya Sai Baba is the first trustee for life was amended. The amendment allowed Gangadhara Bhat, Eshwara Bhat, Narasimha Murthy, Nagananda and B R Vasuki to become trustees for life. It also restricted the number of trustees to a maximum nine and empowered trustees to appoint new ones in case of vacancies. Senior Counsel K G Raghavan appeared on behalf of Nagananda.
