Get ready for hustings, Rai tells Congress workers

With a year left for the General Elections due to be held in 2018, Dakshina Kannada unit of Congress party has been gearing up to prepare for the hustings.

During a meeting held at party office on Wednesday here, under the chairmanship of dakshina kannada district Congress committee president and Minister B Ramanath Rai, it was resolved to work effectively against false propaganda of Sangh Parivar in the district, by giving fitting replies to their follies as the district is also communally sensitive.

Those leaders nominated to boards and corporations from the district should cooperate with the district and block-level committees.

Addressing the party workers, Rai complimented the workers for ensuring the victory of five candidates in the recently held by-election to the local body at Ullal and Puttur. While two  from the party were elected at Ullal, three were elected in Puttur.

Acting president of district committee and former MUDA chairman Ibrahim Kodijal directed all block-level presidents to submit the list of members enrolled in the recent drive, within the end of the month.

He also appealed to the party workers to work unitedly for the victory of the party in forthcoming assembly and parliamentary elections.

Zilla panchayat members M S Muhammad and P P Verghese were tasked with selecting suitable members for planning committee and identify the seniority of the workers and reward them with suitable positions in the coming days.

All India Congress Committee (AICC) member P V Mohan, block presidents Venkappa Gowda, Santosh Kumar Shetty, R K Prithviraj, Vishwas Kumar Das, Valerian D’Souza, Youth Congress president Mithun Rai and others addressed the meeting. Mayor Harinath, former Rajya Sabha MP B Ibrahim, District Congress Committee general secretary Sadashiv Ullal and other leaders attended the meeting.
