Ex-principal of Kendriya Vidyalaya suspended

Last Updated 16 February 2017, 19:53 IST

Kumar Thakur, former principal of Kendriya Vidyalaya Hebbal, who had been arrested and later released on bail on charges of sexually harassing a girl student, was suspended on Thursday by the KV Sanghatan.

Thakur had been transferred to KV Karwar, while a committee was set up to look into the allegations made by a 17-year-old student. She had lodged a complaint with the child helpline that Thakur had made inappropriate, sexually coloured remarks after calling her to his office alone.

On the directions from KV headquarters, New Delhi, a committee was set up with a woman from an NGO as the head to look into the allegations. The suspension was made based on the preliminary report submitted on Thursday morning. By evening, the order for Thakur’s suspension was issued.

A further ‘summary inquiry’ will be conducted as per provisions of the education code to be followed by Kendriya Vidyalayas.
