BJP to stage protest against govt's 'failure'

Bharatiya Janata Party will stage a protest against the state government’s failure in tackling the problems of the district in the city on February 20, MLA K G Bopaiah said.

Briefing reporters here on Friday, he said a protest march will be taken out from General Thimmaiah Circle to the deputy commissioner’s office. “The state government has no control over officials. The behaviour of the chief minister has made his Cabinet collegues and officials engage in corruption,” he charged.

Saying that he had asked not to plant acacia and eucalyptus plants as they are not conducive for ecology, the MLA said that in spite of an appeal made in Legislative Assembly, the officials from Forest Department are coming forward to plant the same saplings. District In-charge minister had promised to give 10 guntas of land to the displaced tribals at Diddalli in Channayyanakote of Virajpet taluk. However, now he is stating that if the land is given in forest area, then he would land up in jail. False promises are creating confusion in the minds of the tribals. “If there is any legal hurdle in allotting land for the displaced tribals at Diddalli, then the government should find a legal solution to it,” said.

The MLA said that constructing a cricket stadium on Palemadu Paisari in Hoddur will benefit the sports talent in the district. An alternative piece of land should be sanctioned to the locals who have been demanding two acres of land for cremetorium at the land identified for cricket stadium.

MLC M P Sunil Subramani said the government is mired in internal problems within the Congress and does not notice the common man’s problems. “We had a hope that District In-charge Minister M R Seetharam will solve the burning issues in Kodagu district. But all our hopes have been dashed to the ground.”

Former MLC S G Medappa said though the entire district has been declared as drought-hit, the farmers are yet to get any compensation. Water crisis has hit coffee production, he claimed.
