All major policy decisions of the government in the energy sector have to be vetted by the commission.<br /><br />The post of KERC chairman fell vacant on December 15 last year when incumbent K P Pandey completed his tenure.<br /><br />The government took its time to appoint the new chairman as it was in a dilemma following a Selection Committee headed by justice (retd) S R Venkateshmurthy recommending the name of Chairman of the Karnataka Appellate Tribunal and 1974 batch IAS officer A Ramaswamy as the first preference for the key post. <br /><br />The Committee had given the second preference to Murthy in its report submitted to the government on January 16, sources said. Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa had the final say in the appointment, the sources added.<br /><br />Appointment<br /><br />Senior IAS office L V Nagarajan has been appointed Principal Secretary, Finance Department following the appointment of incumbent M R Sreenivasa Murthy as Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) Chairman.<br /><br />Nagarajan will also hold the additional charge as Principal Secretary, Water Resources Department, according to an official notification.</p>
