To raise awareness among citizens on waste management solutions and composting techniques, ‘compost santhe’ (fair) was held at Dollars Colony, Sanjaynagar, on Sunday.

Members of more than 35 waste management solution and service providers such as Biome, Smart Bin, Shudh-Labh and Hasiru Dala took part. The staff demonstrated waste management equipment such as compost plants, segregation bins, garbage dumpers and odour control systems. Individual households, apartments and the general public took part in the santhe.

Compost and plants were kept on display and sale at the event organised by BBMP along with residents’ welfare associations of Sanjaynagar and surrounding localities.

M R Prem, a municipality member from Alappuzha (Alleppey), had come all the way to the Santhe to demonstrate the ‘Alleppey’ bins used in that city. Solid waste management experts Meenakshi Bharath and Vani Murthy demonstrated composting methods to the public.

Mayor G Padmavathi, who inaugurated the event, stressed that citizens played a vital role in keeping the streets clean. She said, “Citizens should follow waste segregation rules properly. The santhe should be held in other wards also for increased awareness among the public.”
