Microsoft joins hands with Flipkart

Microsoft on Monday announced its partnership with India’s leading ecommerce platform Flipkart, wherein the latter will avail Microsoft Azure as its exclusive public cloud platform.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Flipkart Group CEO Binny Bansal announced the partnership, which will provide Indian consumers the best online shopping experience.Nadella said Microsoft aims to empower every Indian and every Indian organisation with technology.

“The key to this is forging strategic partnerships with innovative companies like Flipkart. Combining Microsoft’s cloud platform and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities with Flipkart’s existing services and data assets, will enable Flipkart to accelerate its digital transformation in ecommerce and deliver new customer experiences,” he said.

Commenting on it, Bansal said Flipkart has always been committed to its vision of transforming commerce in India through technology.

“Given Microsoft’s strong reputation in cloud computing, coupled with scale and reliability, this partnership allows us to make online shopping more relevant and enriching for customers,” he said.

Flipkart, which is facing valuation slide, recently crossed the 100-million customer milestone. “We are taking the company with our 10-year plan, and we have to keep this in our mind and scale up the company to 500 million customers,” he said.

Besides AI and machine learning, Nadella said Microsoft Azure will add cloud technologies and analytics to Flipkart’s existing data centres. “Our global scale will allow Flipkart achieve continued growth and expansion,” he said.
