Mohammed Syed Haneef, newly appointed chairman of Chikkamagaluru Urban Development Authority (CDA), on Monday promised to develop an outer ring road to cater to the increase in traffic density in town.

Addressing the gathering after taking charge of his new role, Haneef said, “It is imperative to build a ring road on the outskirts due to increase in tourist footfall in the district.”

Haneef promised to deliver with capability and honesty the duty and responsibility entrusted to him by the government.

Former MLC Gayatri Shantegowda likened the chairmanship of the CDA as ‘a seat of thorn’ that has many responsibilities to perform selflessly while implementing government-infused projects.

Recalling the demand to give equal opportunities to leaders belonging to minority communities, Gowda credited both Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and District In-charge Minister G Parameshwara for heeding the demand this time. Hence, Haneef who has been an honest worker of the party for four decades has been bestowed upon with the responsibility, she added.

Former CDA chairman Sridhar Gowda advised his successor to imbibe people-friendly attitude.

Congress general secretary Mahesh Gowda, district unit vice president K S Shanthegowda, BBMP corporator Naushad Ahmed Spices Board member Pawan were present.

Nisar Ahmed upset

Chikkamagaluru district Congress unit (minorities wing) president Nisar Ahmed (Jamsheed), however, was peeved at the process of nomination.

Ahmed, who welcomed the decision of the government to give due preference to minority community, has taken exception for going ahead without seeking the opinion of local leaders including the incumbent district president of the party and senior leaders of the community in the district.

“While the community members remain the traditional voters of the party, the elders in the community have been ignored, only to establish the authority of somebody else. If a similar attitude continues, the party may face diatribe from the community,” Ahmed has warned.

The district unit president should take all into confidence, Ahmed has urged further.
