The police on Tuesday opened two rounds of fire at a habitual offender, injuring him in his legs when he tried to attack police officials in Soladevanahalli while attempting to evade arrest.

The police said Kommaghatta Manja alias Manjunatha has been admitted to Sapthagiri Hospital and is said to be out of danger.

According to the Soladevanhalli police, the incident happened at around 8 pm near Acharya College on Hesarghatta Main Road. Vidyaranyapura police inspector Puneeth and his team had information about Manja's presence near Acharya College on Tuesday evening. Manja, who was wanted for interrogation in a theft case, was hoodwinking the police for a while now.

When Puneeth and his team surrounded Manja, he suddenly started throwing stones at the policemen in which a constable was injured. When the police team tried to nab Manja, he charged at them with a machete which prompted Puneeth to fire at him in self defence.

The inspector fired two rounds on Manja's legs. Senior police officers including Labhu Ram, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation. A case has been registered at the Soladevanahalli police station.
