An American union made in India

American couple Kalki Enrique Das and Yess Miakoda are not only well versed with the Vedas but admire everything Indian which became the sole reason for them to choose to get engaged as per Vedic traditions in the city recently.

The simple ceremony was held at the residence of Shalva Pille Iyengar, Deputy Registrar of Karnataka State Open University. They are expected to get married this summer when they return to the US.

Das is a professor honoris causa at the University of Ancestral Wisdom and a certified Skanda Yoga teacher. He has completed advanced studies in Vedic Philosophy and Rituals. He travels around the world teaching Vedic sciences such as Jyotish (astrology), Vastu and Agama (rituals). As a ritual specialist, he has performed numerous Vedic ceremonies in temples across the world, including in India, United States, Colombia, Peru and Ecuador.

Kalki Das was born in Peru in a family with an Inka Shamanic lineage. He took the path of Bhakti Yoga at an early age since he began reading Bhagavad Gita when he was 16 years of age. He led a monastic life in ashrams around the world for more than 10 years and studied Vedas for over 20 years under the guidance of Swami Paramadwaiti. He is currently studying ‘Pancharatra’ and ‘Agamas’ with Iyengar. Apart from Vedic studies, Das has also studied business administration and computer science.

Yess Miakoda on the other hand, was born in Miami, USA. She is studying various disciplines of philosophy. Apart from a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Florida International University, Yess is a Yogi, Vedic Thai-Yoga body worker and Ayurvedic practitioner.

Fellow students from America, Australia, Germany, Bulgaria and Spain attended the function. Amara Prabhu Dasan, Michael Buhler-Rose, former minister S A Ramdas, Shilpashree Shridhar, Ramesh Sharma, Vivek Rajagopalan, Nagaprasad Iyer, Manjunath Shastry, V B Shalini Simha, Poornima Shanbog, Balasubramanya, Shivashankar, Bhanuprakash, Ramalingaswamy, Bhyrava Gowda and Jayashree Sona were also present at their engagement.
