DU does away with 'special chances' to clear exams

Last Updated 05 March 2017, 19:49 IST

Students of the Delhi University will get an extra chance to complete their degree programme beyond the prescribed time limit only in case of a medical condition, financial crisis or a similar compelling circumstance.

The varsity’s executive council has approved scrapping of over a 40-year-old provision under which students availed a “special chance” to clear their pending examination and obtain a degree even years after dropping out of the programme, provided they justified the reason.

“The executive council has recently approved the proposal to do away with this system...,” a member said.

“Students will have to complete their programmes within the stipulated time frame. Those who could not clear their semesters due to bad health, financial crisis and other compelling situations will get a special chance to clear their examinations,” the council member said.
