The job of these women is only to distribute pamphlets. And, the former mayor and three time councillor of Vishweshwarapuram (143), Ramesh knows the art to sell himself to the people.

He enjoys the credit of introducing push carts with bell (gante gaadi) to collect waste for the first time in India. He  removed dust bins from his wards and introduced collection of waste at doorsteps.

That was in 1990, when he was the first time councillor. Later the system was adopted across the city leading to an investment of Rs 90 crore per year towards municipal waste management.

Deccan Herald tracked his campaign on Wednesday. He prefers door-to-door campaign to reach the public. When he meets elders, he seeks their blessings, while in case of youths he pleads for their wishes. As and when he meets a Telugu speaking voter, he switches over to Telugu.

No matter, whoever he meets he does not forget to say- “Compare the state of civic facilities now in the ward with the days of my tenure.”
