New KPCC prez: Ministers 'hold' meeting

Last Updated 06 March 2017, 19:36 IST

Speculations were rife in the political circles on Monday that a group of state Congress leaders was planning to take a delegation to Delhi soon to urge the party high command to appoint a new KPCC president.

A group of senior ministers reportedly held a meeting to discuss the plan to take the delegation. The leaders are said to be planning to meet the party bosses after March 11, the day when results of elections of Assembly elections in five states will be announced. But the date for the Delhi visit has not been finalised yet.

A section of party leaders, especially ministers, is upset with Parameshwara for creating “confusion” in the party government. In a draft agenda prepared by him for the KPCC co-ordination committee meeting held recently, Parameshwara had proposed revamping of the council of ministers. He had proposed that services of senior ministers should be used for party organisation ahead of the 2018 Assembly polls.

When contacted, Industries Minister R V Deshpande denied that any such meeting was held. “Nobody is seeking removal of Parameshwara. But it is a fact that he (Parameshwara) himself has asked the party high command to relieve him of the responsibility of heading the state party,” he stated.
