The NDA government has been successful in curbing price rise in the country, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the start of his two-day visit to homestate Gujarat after a gruelling poll campaign in Uttar Pradesh.

“You would have seen in recently concluded poll campaigns. All the parties accused us of many things but none could accuse us of not curbing price rise,” he said.

Speaking at Bharuch in South Gujarat at the dedication function of ONGC Petro additions Ltd plant, Modi said that India was the shining spot on a turbulent global map.

He also revisited his decision of demonetisation of November 8, 2016, and quoted several global corporate leaders and economists to counter critics of his decision.

“When in November, we announced the decision to fight corruption and black money, many rumours were spread, allegations made that everything would collapse and that economy would crumble. Some people had to suffer. However, last quarter report suggests that the steps initiated in November have helped India move forward,” he said.

Among many global leaders, the prime minister quoted Apple Inc CEO Tim Cook, Microsoft chief Bill Gates and Nobel laureate Mohammad Yunus of Bangladesh, to
show support of global community.
