A man was stabbed to death by his relative over a petty issue at Kannur village in Bagalur on Saturday. The deceased, Vinod (30), hailed from Nepal. The police arrested Hemaraj (30), a resident of Kannur, and a native of Nepal in connection with the murder. Hemaraj works at a book binding unit at Kannur.

Police said Vinod moved from Mumbai to Bengaluru as his relative Hemaraj promised him a better job in the city. Hemaraj ensured Vinod a job in a printing press. Vinod came to Hemaraj’s house on Saturday night and the duo started consuming alcohol. “Vinod started speaking at a hight pitch. Hemaraj asked him to speak softly saying neighbours would complain to the landlord. He also told Vinod that the owner might ask him to vacate the house if he received complaints. However, Vinod ignored him and continued to speak loudly.”

The two picked a fight over the issue and Vinod, who was well-built, tried to thrash Hemaraj. Hemaraj ran inside the kitchen and brought a knife. He ended up stabbing Vinod in an attempt to protect himself. Vinod, who was bleeding profusely, was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

On being informed, the police rushed to the house and detained Hemaraj. He was produced before the judge and was remanded in judicial custody.

Vinod’s body was shifted to Ambedkar Hospital and the post-mortem will take place once his parents reach the city from Nepal.
