Now, spot plan sanction violations with just a click

Last Updated 13 March 2017, 19:12 IST

Tracking building plan violations will be made easy as the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike is creating a Geographical Information System (GIS)-based platform that allows anyone to view the sanctioned building plan.

The BBMP has already hosted all the building plans in its South Zone sanctioned in the last one year on its portal. People can log on to the BBMP website www.bbmp.gov.in and click on the icon ‘Departments’. A new page opens up where one needs to click on the ‘Town Planning’ icon where a list will appear. Among them, one has to click on the ‘Plan sanction details’ showing a list of plan sanctions. One list that shows ADTP South shows the plans sanctioned in the last one year.

The details posted by the South Zone are in PDF format. However, the BBMP is creating a GIS-based platform showing sites (plots) on the Google map. People can click on any plot and the sanctioned plan would appear on the screen.

BBMP Commissioner N Manjunatha Prasad told DH he has been insisting on transparency in public works as well as in sanctioning building plans.

“We want all these details to be put in the public domain for everyone to see. It will create fear among property owners not to violate the sanctioned plan as anybody can raise objections in the event of violations,” said Prasad.

Chief engineer of BBMP South Zone S Prabhakar said these details in public domain will prevent people from running to BBMP offices to seek sanctioned building plans of their neighbours to check if they have violated rules.

“Many RTI queries pertain to the sanctioned plan. People want to know the actual sanctioned plan when projections of the neighbouring building touch their buildings. Now, anyone can see these details, at least in the South Zone,” he said.
