The ruling PDP has decided to field Tassaduq Mufti, son of former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed, from Anantnag parliamentary constituency for the upcoming byelection.

The name of Tassaduq, an alumnus of the American Film Institute, was cleared at a meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) political affairs committee headed by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who is also the party president.

Tassaduq, a cinematographer who worked in Vishal Bhardwaj’s Kaminey and Omkara and won the Zee Cine and Star Screen awards for Best Cinematographer in 2006 for Omkara, formally joined the PDP on January 7 on the first death anniversary of his father. The youngest of the four siblings, he had stayed away from politics before Mufti’s death.

Tassaduq is the third member of the Mufti family to join politics after his father and sister Mehbooba.

His maternal uncle Sartaj Madni is a senior leader of the PDP . The PDP has also decided to field new entrant Nazir Ahmad Khan from Srinagar constituency. Khan, a former Congressman from Beerwah constituency, joined the PDP last month.
