The Tamil Nadu Police have arrested Yogendra Vasupal, chief executive officer of online facilitator Stayzilla on the charges of alleged payment default.

Police sources here said that Vasupal was taken into custody following a complaint lodged by a media agency. However, Vasupal, in his social media through his wife, rejected the cheating charges slapped against him.

Vasupal’s blog, which was posted by his wife Rupal Yogendra on Wednesday, said there were some disputes with the landlord and with a media agency.

“The first case is against a politician who was our landlord. We have video and audio proof of an assault and then a verbal threat to kill. The second case is against us from a media agency with whom the company had a dispute over deficiency of services and to whom we had asked to take it up in court,” it said.

Meanwhile, rallying behind Vasupal, entrepreneurs said laws need to be followed but any action “beyond the provisions of law would raise insecurity for startup founders”.

“Any actions that go beyond the provisions of the law and create undue fear and harassment would raise the insecurity for start up founders and raise the cost of failure in an unacceptable way,” IT industry body Nasscom said.
