New underpass, wider Hebbal flyover to decongest KIA road

Last Updated 15 March 2017, 20:26 IST

After dropping the controversial steel flyover from Basaveshwara Circle to Hebbal, the state government has gone back to its original plan of widening the existing Hebbal flyover and constructing an underpass to ease traffic on Ballari Road and on the Outer Ring Road.

The government has allocated Rs 88 crore to the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) to construct the underbridge and widen the overbridge. The BDA had done the ground-breaking ceremony for the project in May 2016, but dropped them because the government was keen to construct a steel flyover.

The government had earlier allocated Rs 87 crore for the project. A BDA official said it was the same project which had been revived and would be taken up immediately now that it had found mention in the state budget.

This apart, the BDA will expedite the development of Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout. Besides distributing 5,000 sites this year, it will also create five commercial hubs in the housing colony to make it self-sustained. The agency will also build affordable houses and flats across Bengaluru under various schemes of the state government.

Township on Gujarat model

The BDA will create a model township spread across 166 acres at Konadasanapura village close to Hoskote on Old Madras Road, which is just 20 minutes from the Kempegowda International Airport. The BDA aims to take up the project on the lines of Gujarat International Finance Tec-City. The BDA official said it was the first time the agency was taking up such a project, apart from creating layouts.
