<p>The state government on Monday decided to simplify the procedure for issuing below poverty line ration cards, with an eye on the Assembly elections next year. <br /><br />Sources in the government said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah directed the Food and Civil Supplies Department to introduce a self-declaration system for issuing new cards. <br /><br />An applicant has to submit an affidavit, declaring that she/he is eligible to get a BPL card and that they qualify according to the criteria fixed for it. The decision to this effect was taken at a meeting chaired by Siddaramaiah. Besides, income ceiling of Rs 1 lakh will be fixed. Hitherto there was no income limit. <br /><br /></p>
