Former chief minister S M Krishna will join the BJP in the presence of the party’s national president Amit Shah in New Delhi on Wednesday.

Senior BJP leader R Ashoka, on Tuesday, called on Krishna at the latter’s residence in Bengaluru and handed over a formal invitation from the party’s state president B S Yeddyurappa to join the BJP.

The ‘muhurta’ for the induction has been fixed at 5 pm at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi. Krishna, 84, had recently quit the Congress, saying he had been sidelined in the party. He had said the party was in a “state of confusion” on whether it needed mass leaders or not.

He was in Delhi last week, but his induction into the party could not materialise as his sister passed away.

“We are planning a grand welcome for Krishna at the Kempegowda International Airport when he reaches Bengaluru. He is likely to return on Thursday and a bike rally will be taken out from the airport to the BJP office in Malleswaram,” Ashoka said.
Asked whether any of Krishna’s close associates will join the BJP on Wednesday, Ashoka replied in the negative. “That will happen at a later stage,” he said. Ashoka will accompany Krishna to Delhi.

Union Ministers Ananth Kumar, D V Sadananda Gowda and Yeddyurappa will be present at the party headquarters at 11, Ashoka Road, when Krishna is inducted into the party.
