This intensive cardiologist's heart beats for photography

In a profession where every moment is a question of life or death, photography is a welcome diversion to de-stress for a city-based intensive cardiologist, Dr Karthik Vasudevan.

“Photography is the go-to hobby,” he says. Dr Vasudevan’s photographs are on display at Reves, an art gallery at Jayanagar VIII Block. The display includes over 66 photographs with scenic landscapes and macro photographs of flowers. A look at the dew drop through the camera lens and the hue of flowers were among the primary attractions for visitors.

The exhibition — ‘Cosmic Chronicle’, displays photographs clicked over a period of three to four months. The exhibition began on Saturday and will be on till March 26.
“I have been photographing for over a decade. Once, when I was in the US for a course in heart transplant, I saw an exhibition of macro photography and took a linking for it,” he said. Dr Vasudevan clicked these photographs at several locations including Kodagu, Lalbagh and other nurseries.

“Every minute at work is stressful. It is a question of someone’s life and death. I often take breaks and pursue photography,” he said. “Everyone has access to nature. The perspective with which we see it is what matters.”

He explained that several young patients with heart problems walked into his hospital at Columbia Asia Referral Hospital, Yeshwantpur. On examination, it was found that they did not have any factors such as diabetes or hypertension. “It was stress that had led to heart attacks.

Ensuring a work-life balance is important,” he said, adding that he took a break once in three months to pursue his passion. Photographs on display at the exhibition are printed on cotton rag paper giving it an appearance of a painting. “To make paper, many trees are brought down. Not only can this be avoided with the cotton rag paper but it also lasts for over a century,” he said. No wood has been used to frame these photographs.
