CM urges PM to bail out tur growers

 Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting him to bring tur under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) in the state.

In a letter to Narendra Modi, copies of which were released to the press, Siddaramaiah said that the state produced a record 7.13 lakh metric tonnes of tur in 2016-17 which is 135% higher compared to the previous year.

1.63 lakh farmers register

He said 1.63 lakh farmers have registered for sale of tur in the state.
The state government has purchased tur from 67,090 farmers as on March 20, leaving out 95,928 farmers.

Siddaramaiah has sought the Centre’s intervention to come to aid of farmers and increase the procurement of tur under PSS till May 15 this year.
