Communities honoured for doing their bit for environment

Eco-friendly communities in the city which have adopted sustainable practices successfully were honoured with 'My Place of Pride Awards 2017' on Saturday. Small, large and medium apartment complexes and villa communities were awarded in the areas of waste management, water management, power management, cleanliness and hygiene.

An initiative by Rotary Bangalore and Bangalore Political Action Committee (B.PAC), ‘My Place of Pride’ aims to  recognise eco-friendly communities and encourage people to adopt sustainable practices. Over 102 communities comprising over 200,000 citizens across the city registered for the contest and were evaluated.

Of the 102 communities, 30 were shortlisted for physical inspection by a team of experts and winners were chosen. Excellence awards and overall winning communities’ awards were given away. The overall winners are T-Zed Homes, Sandeep Vihar, Vijayasri Elixir and Chaitanya Samarpan. Mahaveer Season, Koramangala 3rd Block Resident Welfare Association and three other winners were given away excellence awards for following efficient waste management practices.

Additional Chief Secretary (Urban Development Department), Mahendra Jain who gave away the awards said: “It is an overwhelming experience to learn about proactive measures taken by communities.” He added that the government is working towards the revival of Bellandur and Varthur lakes and there will be a visible change soon.
