The Mangaluru Central-Chennai Central superfast train service was operated with electric engine from Mangaluru from Friday.
After the completion of electrification of Charvattur-Mangaluru section, this was the first train that started its journey on electric traction.
It may be recalled that K A Manoharan, commissioner of Railway Safety (Southern circle), Bengaluru, had conducted the statutory inspection of the newly-electrified railway line between Chervathur-Mangaluru in Palakkad Division of Southern Railway on March 11.
The running time of trains between Mangaluru and the South is expected to improve considerably as electrification eliminates changing of locos from diesel to electrical at Shoranur.
