The Department of Urban Land Transport (DULT) has come up with a plan to develop the area around the KR Market station to make it accessible to public while highlighting the historic value of the place.

The design of KR Road between Bangalore Medical College junction and Fort junction will get a facelift and the bus stand will be integrated with the Metro station. A DULT official said the KR Market station will form a significant point in Bengaluru’s mobility map due to the significance of its location. “We will give priority to pedestrians with wide footpaths. The plan includes landscaping the area around the station,” she said.

Bengaluru Development Minister K J George intervened to answer a question on the possible demolition of petty shops in the vicinity. “If demolition is necessary for development, we will go ahead with it but make alternative arrangements for those affected by it,” he said.

“Besides BMTC and private bus stations, there are two places recognised by the Archeological Survey of India — Bangalore Fort and Tipu’s Summer Palace. The station and the connected infrastructure will provide quality public spaces and better on-ground mobility,” she said.
