Odissi dancer Sharmila Mukerjee will present ‘Kaikeyi’, an odissi dance ballet that portrays ‘Ramayana’’s much maligned character in positive light. The production will be staged on April 7, 6.30 pm at ADA Rangamandira.

‘Kaikeyi’ is a part of ‘Pravaha 2017’, a dance festival hosted by Sharmila Mukerjee and Sanjali Centre for Odissi dance, in sacred remembrance of legendary odissi dancer, Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra.

‘Kaikeyi’ by Sharmila Mukerjee is an Abhinaya based piece along with some pure odissi movements.

The presentation will reinterpret the traditional portrayal of the character as a heartless manipulator and a wicked queen. In Sharmila Mukerjee’s production, Kaikeyi will be portrayed as loving wife, a doting mother, a dutiful queen and a brave warrior. Her character is one of catharsis, beauty, bravery and a whole lot of love.

The costume in the solo performance has been carefully chosen to reflect the time and setting of the epic.

Entry is free.
