The state unit of BJP on Tuesday charged the ruling Congress with misusing administrative machinery in the byelections to the Nanjangud and Gundlupet assembly constituencies.

In a memorandum submitted to Chief Electoral Officer Anil Kumar Jha, the party urged the Office of Chief Electoral Officer (OCEO), Bengaluru, to replace the state police with the Central forces in order ensure free and fair elections in the two constituencies.

Party MLA B N Vijaykumar said the officials involved in the byelections are acting like Congress agents. The ruling party has made preparations to transport money and liquor in the government vehicles to be distributed among the voters, he charged.

He urged the CEO to intervene and take immediate steps to prevent malpractice. The polling is scheduled on April 9.
