“We are committed to the passage of a Right to Food Security law. This will mark yet another achievement in our continuing battle against chronic starvation and malnutrition,” said Gandhi.

She was addressing a National Convention on Law, Justice and Common Man organised by the Legal and Human Rights department of the All India Congress Committee (AICC). Nearly 2,000 lawyers from across the country assembled here for the conclave.

Inaugurating the convention, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh expressed concern over huge arrears and backlog of cases at every level of the judicial system and said that the Government was committed to augment and improve judicial infrastructure to ensure speedy access to justice for all.

All concerned
He said that legal and judicial reform was not only a concern of the judiciary and legislature.
“It is equally the solemn responsibility of the executive and, indeed, of the Bar,” the PM told a national meet of the lawyers with allegiance to the Congress. “The lead, however, has to come from within. It is you – the lawyers, the insiders – who have to show us the path,” he added.
