Special drive to recruit medical staff

 The state Cabinet on Wednesday gave approval for the health and family welfare department to take up a special recruitment drive for appointing specialists, doctors, paramedical staff and nurses in government hospitals.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, Law Minister T B Jayachandra said rules will be framed for taking up the recruitment drive to fill a large number of vacancies in government hospitals soon.

At present, there are 1,285 vacancies of specialists/doctors, 684 posts of medical officers, 8,137 posts of paramedical staff and 1,753 posts of nurses. The rules will provide for filling the vacancies through direct recruitment, Jayachandra said. Another set of rules will be framed to recruit 120 Ayush doctors.

In another decision, the Cabinet decided to allot 57 acres of land at Amaravathi village in Chikkaballapur district to the higher education department to set up the campus for the newly carved out Bengaluru North University. The Cabinet decided to entrust the work of completion of Kalaburagi airport  to NCC Limited at a cost of Rs 29.2 crore.
