Mahagathbandhan will not work in K'taka: BSY

BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa on Sunday said mahagathbandhan (grand alliance) of non-BJP parties will not be of any use in the Assembly elections next year in the state.

“Mahagathbandhan will not be of any use in the state. The Congress and the SP had formed it in Uttar Pradesh (in the recently held polls). Everybody knows what happened in the elections,” he told reporters here on seeking his reaction to the speculation in the political circles that the Congress and the JD(S) may form an alliance to take on the BJP in the 2018 Assembly elections.

He was speaking after paying tribute to party leader and MLC Vimala Gowda who died recently. Yeddyurappa, however, refused to react to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s statement that he will soon meet the JD(S) president H D Deve Gowda and thank him for his party’s co-operation in the recently held byelections to the Nanjangud and Gundlupet Assembly constituencies. He expressed confidence that the BJP will win the Assembly elections next year.

The BJP president hit out at Siddaramaiah for his comment on differences among BJP leaders, saying that the byelection victory has gone to his (Siddaramaiah) head. “The ruling Congress is facing plenty of problems of its own. There are number of factions within the party. Siddaramaiah should work towards setting his own house in order before commenting on others,” he added.
