Driver's suicide: HC stays action against officer

Last Updated 26 April 2017, 18:50 IST

The High Court of Karnataka on Wednesday stayed proceedings against special land acquisition officer L Bheema Naik, who is accused of abetting the suicide of his driver Ramesh.

On December 6, 2016, Ramesh committed suicide in Maddur of Mandya district. He had left a death note, which said that Naik threatened to kill him after he (Ramesh) got to know of Naik’s misdeeds. He had claimed in the note that Naik helped mining baron Janardhana Reddy to convert his black money into white during the wedding of latter’s daughter in November 2016. The Maddur police had registered a case of abetment to suicide against Naik. However, Naik had moved the court against this.

Justice Anand Byrareddy granted stay on the ground that there was no evidence for establishing the claims made in the death note.  The court also ordered notice to CID, which is investigating the case.
