Ace that look

Minimal makeup

From reel to the real life, stars are going the natural way and people are following suit. Be it the young Alia in ‘Dear Zindagi’ or  actors opting for minimal makeup during various occasions, heavy makeup seems to be taking a backseat now. With the balmy, humid season setting in, the ‘minimal makeup’ or ‘no makeup’ look seems to be the way forward.

A revamped version of the ‘natural look’ that most people prefer, this makeup trend is also a favourite among many. A light BB cream with no foundation is what makes for a great ‘no makeup’ look.

T Suneetha of Silken Hair & Skincare, Malleswaram, says, “The lesser visible makeup on one, the more true to the trend it is. Compacts are a big no and so are bright and dark lip colours.”

Adding that the look is good for the season as it allows the skin to breath, she says, “This look works best for a casual day out and can be accessorised well to look classy.”

Minimal is the magical formula for Sandalwood actor Sanchita Shetty, who likes staying away from a lot of makeup.

“Less is always more, especially when it comes to makeup as it naturally highlights one’s features. During this season, I just wear my sunblock or sunscreen and a little compact powder if needed. I skip the eye makeup and opt for ‘kajal’, which is relaxing on the eye too,” she elaborates.

Peach, coral orange and pink top the list of lip colours which work best with this look.

“Any light lipstick shade close to one’s skintone makes for the perfect ‘no makeup’ look,” she says. A light dab of blush also complements this trend but isn’t necessary for those who would prefer the strictly plain look, adds Sanchita.

Similarly, smoky eyes are being replaced by brown and pink shades of eye-makeup. Akanksha Shetty, a model, says, “When dark colours are used, they make the face look more sweaty. Adding volume to eyelashes and well-defined eyebrows can substitute the heavy cakey makeup that is being avoided now.”

Makeup artist Gouri Kapur says that the summers call for a light look. “A good concealer and a good BB cream should do the trick. Foundations should be avoided,” she says and adds, “Wear an eye shadow that is three to four shades around your own skin tone. Earthy tones in matte finish are the best options to go for,” she says.

For those who want to go for lipshades with this look, a ‘nude lipstick’, a peach lipgloss or a matte longstay lipstick is the best way to go.

“Pastels or soft colours are the best add-ons. This will leave one looking fresh,” she adds. Skipping the mascara or the heavy ‘kohl’ would be a good tip. “Or use a waterproof mascara if you have to use one. Try using a brown eyeliner if using one and avoid creamy blushes,” she says.
