Hockey Bengaluru rode on Umashankar’s brilliance to beat Hockey Jammu & Kashmir 5-4 in the 7th Hockey India Sub-junior National Championship (Division B) at the Hockey Stadium here on Monday.
Pegged back in the 13th minute after J&K’s Manik Sharma converted a penalty corner, coach Dominic Savio’s boys rallied to notch up a fine win.
Prem equalised for Bengaluru in the 16th minute, while Punith Padmanabha gave them the lead in the 20th minute from a short corner.
Later, Umashankar took the limelight with his performance slotting-in his brace in the 22nd and the 26th minutes.
Though J&K hit back with Gagandeep Singh Sr. scoring in the 60th and 68th minutes, it was not enough as Bengaluru held on for the win.
In the other game of the day, Mumbai School Sports Association (MSSA) recorded a comfortable 3-1 win over Hockey Uttarakhand.
Arvind Yadav was the star for the Mumbai outfit, scoring a brace in his side’s win.
Rajveen Singh Dhariwala opened the scoring for MSSA in the sixth minute while Yadva slotted his goals in the 31st and the 56th minutes.
Mitesh Singh scored the only goal for Uttarakhand in the 50th minute.
