Last Updated 05 May 2017, 19:43 IST

This year’s International Museum Day will be celebrated on May 19 under the theme ‘Once Upon A Time’.  The Tourism and Kannada and Culture departments, along with prominent museums of Bengaluru, have planned a series of programmes to attract people and tell them stories of museums. People will get to narrate their own experiences on social media using the hashtag #MyMuseumStory.

The campaign also features contests and promotions. Activities like treasure hunt, museum walks, talks, workshops, seminars and film screenings will be organised at Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum, Government Museum, HAL Heritage Centre and Aerospace Museum, Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath, National Gallery of Modern Art, Gandhi Bhavan and Human Brain Museum (Nimhans).

Minister for Kannada and Culture Umashree said the campaign was aimed at preserving and promoting Kannada and the culture and heritage of Karnataka in India and abroad.

“The International Museum Day is an ideal platform through which we look forward to reaching out to society. Museums provide the best platform for cultural exchange and enrichment, mutual understanding, co-operation and harmony among people,” she said.

Tourism Minister Priyank Kharge said: “Museums are among the biggest assets of our country. As we race ahead in our pursuit of progress, it becomes even more important for us to cherish stories of our past. It is with this intent that the state government hopes to rekindle public consciousness with our rich stories of art, culture, heritage and technology. Our wish is to reach out and promote museums and the stories they tell among children and parents in Karnataka through an innovative campaign,” he said.
