Kejriwal should quit as Delhi CM on moral grounds: Oppn

Last Updated 07 May 2017, 12:55 IST
BJP and Congress on Sunday called for Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's resignation and a probe into the allegations of receiving Rs two crore from a Cabinet colleague.

While BJP wants dismissal of Kejriwal government if he refuses to resign, Congress asked the Centre to initiate criminal action against Kejriwal besides asking the AAP leader to step down.

AAP rubbished the allegations with Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia saying allegations raised by Kapil Mishra who was "sacked due to poor performance" did not merit a response and they were "absurd and there are no facts".

Addressing a press conference, Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari claimed it was perhaps "one of the biggest exposes" as the eye-witness is none other than the Chief Minister's cabinet colleague.

He demanded that Kejriwal should resign owing moral responsibility. "In case Kejriwal doesn't resign, the Lt Governor should examine the possibility of recommending 'dismissal' of the AAP-led Delhi government to the President," Tiwari said.

"Kejriwal and his coterie is involved in land grabbing, land buying in unauthorized areas, money laundering and other economic offences. With today's expose, the BJP’s allegations have been proven right," he claimed.

Congress also used the opportunity to target the AAP with its Delhi chief Ajay Maken asking for initiation of criminal proceedings against Kejriwal.

Maken said six of the seven AAP ministers are facing corruption charges and four had to resign earlier on various occasions and wondered why no action was taken on the Shunglu Committee report which spoke about irregularities in the functioning of the Delhi government.

"Mishra's claim that Kejriwal took Rs two crore is not mere allegation rather an affidavit before the public of what he saw. He is saying what he saw as an eyewitness. The Anti-Corruption Bureau and the CBI should immediately take action and register an FIR against Kejriwal. Kejriwal has no moral right to continue as the Chief Minister. He should immediately resign," Maken said.

He accused the BJP of not taking action against the AAP government, saying it was reluctant to take on the AAP though it make allegations against it.
