RJD ministers in soup for turning bungalows into banquet halls

Last Updated 07 May 2017, 20:02 IST
A day after RJD president Lalu Prasad’s ‘link’ with incarcerated former MP Mohammad Shahabuddin was exposed, two RJD ministers in the Nitish Cabinet are in the eye of the storm for turning their bungalows into banquet halls.

The ministers, Abdul Ghafoor and Shiv Chandra Ram, have been charged with entering into a deal with event management companies which organise marriage functions on the sprawling campuses of the huge ministerial bungalows allotted to them by the state legislature secretariat.

While Minority Affairs Minister Ghafoor stays on Taylor Road, Art and Culture Minister Shiv Chandra Ram has been allotted a bungalow on Strand Road.

After the gaffe was exposed by a local TV channel, the main Opposition party BJP submitted a memorandum to Bihar Governor Ram Nath Kovind, urging him to ask Nitish to sack the two ministers from the RJD .“Ghafoor and Ram have turned their government bungalows into banquet halls. We have been told that they have tied up with event management companies and charge hefty fee in lieu of letting out parts of their sprawling bungalows for marriage functions,” said  Sushil Kumar Modi.
