BMTC buses snuff lives out of cyclist, vendor

A 36-year-old cyclist was killed on the spot when a speeding BMTC bus knocked him down near Vijaya Rolling Mills on NTTF Road in Peenya in the early hours of Wednesday.

The deceased, Ravi, was a resident of Nelagadaranahalli and worked at a private firm. He was on his way to work when the incident occurred, police said.

Passersby and employees of an adjacent company gathered at the spot and staged a protest by placing  his body on the road, demanding that the BMTC officials come to the spot. The Peenya traffic police came to the spot and dispersed the crowd, before shifting the body for post mortem. The police have arrested the driver and seized the bus.

A 57-year-old vegetable vendor was run over by a BMTC bus on Lakkasandra main road, opposite to Nimhans Convention Centre on Wednesday morning. The deceased, K V Venkataramanachari, a native of Andhra Pradesh, was on his way to the Nimhans hospital for treatment of his headache, accompanied by a relative, police said.

A bus on its way from Dairy Circle towards Wilson Garden knocked Venkataramanachari down when the two were crossing the road. Passersby shifted him to the hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. His body was handed over to his family after post-mortem. Wilson Garden traffic police have arrested the BMTC driver, identified as Erappa Magadi, 38, and seized the bus.
