Keeping pace with change
Rated as the world’s most dynamic city, Bengaluru has seen a lot of changes in its IT sector and general development. Till date, areas like MG Road, Brigade Road, Church Street and Commercial Street have been popular haunts among youngsters. Now the city is witnessing a gradual change in the favourite hangout spots of the youth. Areas like Kammanahalli and New BEL Road are seeing a rise in the occupancy of new dining joints, hospitals and universities.

Kammanahalli, also called ‘Kamanahattan’ by many, has a large number of eateries that have come up in the locality. Situated in the north-east part of Bengaluru, it was once a downmarket locality which has, of late, gone through a sea of changes. The number of colleges and universities there have also increased and this has led to an increase in the culinary options in the area as well. From huge stacks of ‘Shawarma rolls’ to ‘Eggs Benedict’ and Korean food, the food choices in Kammanahalli are endless.

Tanvi Madaiah, a student of Chandrasekhar Institute of Speech and Hearing, says, “The thought of staying in Kammanahalli haunted me at first, but once I moved there, I realised that the area has evolved quite a bit and it is quite feasible for me to have a good meal there at student-friendly prices.”
‘Truffles’, a cafe popular among the student crowd, has opened their new branch there for the same reason that they expect a larger number of customers in the area.

Nadia Khateja, another student who resides in Kammanahalli, says, “I shifted there with my family recently and we find it quite easy to get all our daily provisions in the area. Going to college is also no problem.”

Even New BEL Road was like a barren land at one point of time. But walk down the road now and you will find it flooded with shops, eateries and many more buzzing places.

Lekhana C, a student of MS Ramaiah Medical College, says,“ I used to be a resident of New BEL Road. We shifted from there due to lack of facilities in the area, but now I am overwhelmed to see the variety of shops and eateries that I can choose from to pass my time after college hours.”

Places like ‘Pepper Mill Bistro’ and ‘Gilly’s’ are always quite crowded there while other eateries like ‘Onesta’ and ‘Paradise’ have also found patrons in the locality. With areas such as these evolving, the tag bestowed upon the city surely seems to be justified. One can certainly look forward to many more refreshing changes taking place in Bengaluru in the near future.
