Harshjeet in front after first round

Fresh from his title-winning exploits last week, Harshjeet Singh Sethie continued to carry that momentum forward as he seized pole position after the opening round of the IGU Yes Bank Karnataka Junior Boys Golf Championship here on Tuesday.

The Delhi kid, who picked up his first title of the season last week in the Tamil Nadu Junior Boys Golf Championship, shot a fine three-under 69 at the Eagleton Golf Resort. Lurking one shot behind is the talented Kartik Sharma while Adilbir Sharma managed a 71 to stay close on the heels of the leader.

Harshjeet opened the tournament with a birdie on the opening hole before dropping a bogey on the fifth hole.

He immediately negated that damage with a birdie on the sixth and then took the turn at two-under with his third birdie on the eighth. Another birdie followed on the 11th but a bogey on the 12th pulled him back a bit. He then fired a birdie on the 14th and parred the remaining holes to hit the front.

Kartik, winner of two tournaments this season, started from the 10th tee and picked up his first shot on the 14th. He then endured an up-and-down ride until the turn, bogeying the 16th and 18th and sandwiching a birdie on the 17th. His inward journey though was clean, nailing birdies on the first and eighth.

Leading scores (after 18 holes):
