Search for JCB operator suspended

Various agencies engaged in tracing excavator operator Shantha Kumar, suspended their operations on Wednesday.

Mayor G Padmavathi told DH the team which carried out the search operation toiled day and night but in vain. Finally, it was decided to suspend the operation.

Those who took part in the operation were experts who had retrieved bodies of two actors from the Thippagondanahalli reservoir during the shooting of the film Maastigudi. The rescue team was also involved in the search operations in the Bagalur drowning incident. “They worked very hard ignoring the stench. They covered a distance of 32 km but could not trace him,” said the Mayor.

She added that initially, it was decided to give a compensation of Rs 1 lakh but the area MLA said the amount was meagre. “In a day or two, we will decide on giving the compensation to help the family. We plan to give the family Rs 10 lakh,” said Padmavathi.
