Culinary potpourri

Vegetarian spread
Last Updated 26 May 2017, 19:11 IST
Sometimes, you may be in the mood to eat a little more than you normally do, perhaps a nice compact spread, but still not a full-fledged heavy buffet that fills you right uptil the brim.

If that’s what’s on your mind, a good place to head to is ‘Subz’ in Jayanagar.

The vegetarian restaurant serves reasonably priced North Indian fare along with some South Indian dishes. It has been around for quite sometimes and those in and around the area frequent it often.

Open for both lunch and dinner, there are about four to five different items in each of the sections — appetisers, main course and dessert. One can look forward to building their appetite with ‘Veg steamed momos’ served with chutney, ‘Ajwani paneer tikka’, ‘Paneer tikka masala’, ‘Veg money bags’, ‘Cheese baby rolls’ and ‘Paneer tikka nizami roll’. If you don’t want to fill yourself up too much, you might like to eat more of the appetisers and only briefly touch upon the mains.

However, if you’re one of those who likes to do justice to all parts of the meal, you can safely move on to the main course once you’re done nibbling on the starters.

The North Indian curries are well-balanced in terms of taste. There are dishes like ‘Paneer begum bahaar’, ‘Dal makhani’, ‘Aloo gobi with an aamchoori twist’, ‘Subz methi mehak’ and ‘Subz kasoori khas’ that can be enjoyed with a variety of ‘naans’ and ‘rotis’.

The bread basket is replenished with hot items from time to time. They even have options like ‘sambar’, rice and ‘curd rice’ for the South Indian palate.

In the dessert section, there’s an assortment of sweet delights and something for everyone. One can dig into the ‘cheesecake’, dry cakes in vanilla and coffee flavours, ‘Chocolate brownie’, ‘Mix fruit jelly’ and hot ‘jalebis’.

The items on the menu keep changing from time to time in order to keep the monotony factor at bay.

The place doesn’t score much in terms of its ambience and the restaurant often tends to get noisy, especially during dinner time, but the fare is decent and worth the price.

A good time to visit, especially if you’re in the mood to chat at ease and simply relax, is during lunch hours.
The place is relatively quiet at this time of the day.

The restaurant is open from 12 pm to 3.30 pm for lunch and 7 pm to 11 pm for dinner.

‘Subz’ is located at Cosmopolitan Club, 22nd Cross, 3rd Block, Jayanagar. For details, call 45128747.
