Last Updated 27 May 2017, 21:13 IST
Fire broke out at a five-storey commercial building on Central Jail Road in Kaikondanahalli on Saturday, causing panic among occupants and the neighbours. However, the Fire and Emergency Services was alerted in time and the fire was doused. No casualties have been reported.

Short-circuit is suspected to have been the cause of fire.

The building houses a supermarket on the ground floor and a home decor outlet on the first floor.

PG accommodation

The second, third and the fourth floors are let out as a paying guest accommodation for men with around 70 to 75 people. The fifth floor is a common dining area for the men in the PG, a fire officer said.

Narendra Kumar and Ashutosh Kumar, both banking analysts with Wipro, who were on the third floor noticed the smoke billowing out from the first and the second floors and immediately alerted others in the building and the Fire services.

Six fire tenders were pressed into service and the fire was doused, after making sure that all the nearby buildings were vacated.

Samples collected

Samples have been collected and sent for examination. The exact cause will be known after the report comes, the officer added.
