Police control room to be a 'call centre' soon: SP

Seized commodities worth Rs 23 lakh displayed at Property Returns Parade

Rao was speaking to reporters at the display of commodities seized in connection with theft, robbery, dacoity and other cases at various police stations in the district at the Police Parade Ground in Mangalore on Tuesday. He said that four parellel telephone lines will be connected to Control Room to make it congestion free. Citizens can contact the Control Room by dialling 100 at any time without any obstacles, he added.

Further he said that a city police patrol vehicle will be equipped with Global Positioning System (GPS), which costs around Rs 50,000. The incoming messages from the Control Room will be forwarded immediately to the patrol vehicle through GPS to speed up the response, he added.

Rao said that the department has taken extra measures to prevent communal attacks in the district. The department already has identified 480 people, who have criminal backgrounds, and booked them under Section 110 of the CRPC, he added.

Display of seized items

A display of commodities worth Rs 23 lakh seized in connection with theft, robbery, dacoity and other cases at various police stations limits in the district during the past six months was held at the Police Parade Ground. The seized items included idols of Gods and Goddesses, gold ornaments, telephones, mobile phones, guns, vehicles,
Meanwhile, Seized gold ornaments and other valuables worth Rs 9.95 lakh were handed over to the complainants following court orders on the occasion.

Gold worth Rs 3.5 lakh recovered from the accused was handed over to a complainant Chandrashekhara Shetty by the Bajpe Police.

Shetty’s house at Porkody in Bajpe station limits was burgled in January, 2007 and gold ornaments worth around Rs 5 lakh was stolen.

Bajpe police also handed over 9 sovereign of gold ornaments to complainant Madhava of Muchur, whose house was burgled around nine months ago. Similarly, many valuables were handed over to its owners by various police station authorities at the display programme.
