Last Updated 01 April 2010, 16:31 IST

University Registrar Prof Chinnappa Gowda, in the show cause notice served on Somayaji on March 24, stated that the students had sought action against Somayaji for participating in a public rally against the Anti-Cow Slaughter Bill, which was held in the City on February 25.

“As per the Mangalore University Employees Service (Conduct) Rules, participating in such programme amounts to violation,” Gowda stated in the notice and sought Somayaji’s clarification.

‘Allegations baseless’

In his reply sent on March 30, Somayaji said that the allegations against him were baseless. “I had participated in the rally on February 25 only after obtaining a casual leave (CL) in advance. Hence, it can never be a violation of Mangalore University Employees Service (Conduct) Rules. Further, neither students nor higher authorities have the rights to interfere in my personal affairs,” he added.
